The President of Ireland visits Irish Missionaries in Latin America

Some weeks ago, the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins visited Latin America. At a gathering of Irish missionaries based in Peru, the President spoke of his appreciation for the work done by members of the various missionary orders. His visit was an opportunity to draw attention to the important work done by Irish non-government organisations and missionaries in Latin America over many years.

“Irish missionaries have a long history of working in Latin America in partnership with local communities. Today, they work with communities to demand justice and human rights, create sustainable livelihoods, provide education and implement measures for disaster reduction” (Suzanne Keatinge, The Irish Times).
