World Environment Day, 5 June 2019

Back to news

World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. It has been celebrated annually on 5 June for 45 years (since 1974). Each World Environment Day is organised around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for this year is: #Beat AirPollution.

This global campaign for clean air is aimed at reducing the impact of air pollution on our health & climate.

There are multiple sources of air pollution. Understanding the different types of pollution, and how it affects our health and environment will help us take steps towards improving the air around us. Find out about the main types of pollution here.

The theme invites us all to learn how air pollution affects our body, discover how air in the capital city we live impacts on us, commit to clean air for health and join the BreatheLife network. The activities can be undertaken on this site
