June: Month of the Sacred Heart

The Heart of Jesus is the ultimate symbol of God’s mercy, the source from which salvation for all humanity comes. The heart has always been seen as the “centre” or essence of a person and the wellspring of our emotional lives and love.

The Jesuits of Britain have created 9 days of prayer (a novena) called ‘Hearts of Fire’. Each of the 9 days takes as its theme an aspect of Jesus’ heart. You might choose to complete the 9 days during June, or select particular days for your prayer and reflection.

As you complete the day’s chosen prayer, ask yourself

• Do I allow this loving God to hold and shape me?
• Can I be more loving, forgiving, docile, merciful …today? And tomorrow?
