Obituary:

Sr. Laboure Cuddihy R.I.P.

Sr. Laboure (Josephine) Cuddihy was born in Garryduff, Owning, Co Kilkenny on 14th May 1914.  One of seven children, she was the daughter of Mary and Andrew Cuddihy.

Laboure entered the St John of God Novitiate, Wexford, on 17th October 1932, made Her First Profession on 8th December l935 and her Final Profession on 8th December 1938.  Two of her sisters also entered the St John of God Congregation in Perth, West Australia – Srs. Anne and Idus.  During her lifetime, Laboure showed a caring concern for all to whom she ministered in the various communities of the Congregation, in Torquay, Maypark, John’s Hill, Kilkenny, St. John of God Novitiate and Kilmore.  She had a droll sense of humour and a generous heart that endeared her to many friends.  She retired to Wexford Convent in 1991 but continued to play an active role in the community there for several more years.

In recent years Laboure experienced the weakness of old age but was patient, gentle and always grateful for the many kindnesses shown to her.  She loved the daily visits from the Sisters, from her family and friends from Kilmore where she spent the final twenty years of her ministry.

Laboure passed away peacefully on 8th June, 2011 surrounded by her Sisters in community.  Her funeral Mass was celebrated on 10th June, 2011 at St John of God Convent Chapel, Newtown Road.  Her remains were interred in the Convent Cemetery.

She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Mary, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, her extended family, her community and her many friends.

MAY HER GENTLE SOUL REST IN PEACE
