Sr. Evangelist Cassin R.I.P.

A native of Ballycocksuist, Co. Kilkenny, Evangelist was born on 13th November 1906, a daughter for Patrick Cassin and Brigid Cummins.  Her baptismal name was Margaret. She attended the local National School in Inistioge and went to secondary school in the Mercy Convent, Thomastown.  She entered the St. John of God Congregation on the 2th February 1926 in Wexford, taking Evangelist as her religious name. She made her First Profession on the 9th September 1928 and her Final Profession on the 9th September 1931.

Evangelist lived in Wexford Convent and taught in The Faythe School until her retirement in 1972.  She then went on to the Convent in John’s Hill, Waterford, where she served as leader in the community – a post she held for six years. She was very close to her family and always enjoyed visiting home. She is remembered as a great teacher, a warm, kind and personable woman.

She returned from Waterford to the Wexford Community, Newtown Road. She died Feb 3rd 1990 and is buried in the Convent cemetery.
